DANIEL FROHMAN. TLS: "Danl Frohman", 1p, 7¾x5½. New
York, 1933 May 11. On letterhead of the Lyceum Theatre to Mrs. Smith. In
full: "On Wednesday May 24th at the Casino in Central Park we are holding
a special supper and dance party which is to be photographed. I have, among
eight friends, selected you as one of my company at the supper table. Trusting
that you can join me on that occasion which is an Actors' Fund affair. I am
yours sincerely." Daniel Frohman (1851-1940) was a theater manager/producer
who was responsible for The Count of Monte Christo (1912), The Days of
Days (1914) and The Witching Hour (1916). The older brother of
Charles Frohman, Daniel formed a company that managed his brothers' theatrical
stars after Charles' death in 1915. Daniel eventually abandoned producing, but
stayed active in the theatre, serving as President of the Actors Fund
(1904-1940). Lightly creased with folds, vertical fold between the "nl" of
signature. Lightly soiled, shaded at blank right margin. Upper left corner
chipped off, torn at lower right edge (all paper intact). Pencil notes (unknown
hand) at upper left edge and upper right corner. Overall, fine
condition.
