Free Frank Signed: “Daniel Webster” in ink, along with “Hnble Nathan Appleton/ Beacon Str.” 4½x2¾. Nathan Appleton (1779-1861) was a congressman who represented the 1st district of Massachusetts from 1831 to 1833, and then again for five months in 1842. Daniel Webster(1782-1852) was a United States politician who was a Whig for most of his career. He negotiated an agreement with Canada that defined the U.S. border with the northern nation in 1842 and served as Secretary of State under three Presidents. Webster, along with Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun, dominated the legislative branch in the pre-Civil War era. All three men fought to keep the United States together and forged numerous compromises regarding the slavery issue. They are considered among the greatest U.S. Senators ever. Fine condition.
