Daniel Webster signs a partly printed letter announcing that he has been appointed by Secretary of State of the United States.
Partly Printed Letter Signed: "Danl Webster" as Harrison's Secretary of State, 1p, 7½x9. Department of State, Washington, 1841 March 6. Headed "Circular" indicating this letter was one of many identical letters circulated to various people. In full: "Sir: I have the honor to inform you that the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, has appointed me Secretary of State of the United States and that I have this day entered upon the duties of that office. I am, Sir, Your obedient servant." William Henry Harrison was inaugurated as President two days earlier. Webster, noted for his oratory, served in the U.S. House of Representatives (1813-1817, 1823-1827) and the Senate (1827-1841, 1845-1850) and as Harrison, Tyler and Fillmore's Secretary of State (1841-1843, 1850-1852). Lightly creased, else fine. Framed in Gallery of History style: 30¼x21.
