Daniel Wolsey Voorhees (1827-1897) was a U.S. Senator remembered for his anti-war sentiments vis-à-vis the U.S. Civil War. Before functioning as a senator, Voorhees was a lawyer who became U.S. district attorney for the state of Indiana and a Democratic congressman who served from 1869 to 1873. His tenure in the Senate lasted from 1877 to 1897. A member of the Finance Committee during his time in the U.S. Senate, Voorhees was known for his impressive oratorical skills and was also reputed to be overly generous to those he considered to be in need. Lightly toned. Corners and edges gently worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
