Signature: "Danielle Darrieux", 4x3 card, affixed to a 6x4 index card. With printed text
reading: "Danielle Darrieux/Rot und Schwarz". Rot und Shwarz is the German title of her
1954 French film Rouge et noir. French actress Danielle Darrieux (1917-2017) has an
arms-length and still-growing resume of over 140 films and TV shows, most of them
French-language productions, and has received three nominations for the César Awards,
the French version of the Academy Award, for Une chambre en ville (1982), Le lieu du
crime (1986) and 8 femmes (2002). Darrieux, who trained on the cello at the Paris
Conservatory, made her film debut in 1931's La Bal, with her big break as Baroness Marie
Vetsera in Mayerling(1936). She continued working during the Nazi occupation of France,
which led some to accuse her of collaboration, but these accusations did nothing to stop or
even slow down her career. American audiences may know Darrieux from her few Hollywood
films, including The Rage of Paris (1938), Rich, Young and Pretty (1950) and Five Fingers
(1952). She also has a few Broadway credits, including a stint as Katherine Hepburn's
replacement in Coco (1969-1970). Comic book fans may recognize her from one of her most
recent efforts, as the voice of Marjane's grandmother in the film adaptation of Persepolis
(2007). Adhesive on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
