DANNY DAVIS
Signed b/w RCA publicity photo of country musician Danny Davis in a white jacket and black shirt and holding a trumpet
Inscribed photograph signed "To/Ed,/Each time I think/it cant [sic] be a better/week than last! But/it always is!/Thanks/for making this/Yankee feel so/at home!/Danny". B/w, 7¾x9¾ image, 7x7¾ overall, one surface. Captioned: "Danny Davis". Photo by RCA and Buddy Lee Attractions Inc. Davis (1925-2008), who popularized the use of brass instruments in country music, came to country music fairly late in life. He started his musical career as a trumpet soloist with the Massachusetts All-State Symphony Orchestra at 14 and, by 1940, was a trumpeter for Gene Krupa. After working as a trumpeter and vocalist in several big bands, he became a record producer in New York City in 1958 and in Nashville in the mid-1960s. Davis formed his first band, Danny Davis and the Titans, in the early 1960s, but it wasn't until the end of the decade, when he formed Nashville Brass, that he started to make his own mark. Seven of his albums cracked the country charts Top 20 between 1969 and 1980, and Davis also scored three minor hit singles with Columbia Stockade Blues and Wabash Cannon Ball (both 1970) and Green Eyes (Cryin' Those Blue Tears) (1980). Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Missing bottom left corner. Light nick in bottom right corner. Otherwise in fine condition.
