Lighter unsigned. 1½x2¾x½. With shiny chrome-colored cover and gas switch and black plastic band above clear fluid reservoir. Reservoir contains a 1¼x1 piece of plastic with a portrait of Thomas on one side and a drawing of "St. Jude Children's/Research Hospital" on the other. Thomas founded the St. Jude's Research Hospital, which is dedicated to finding cures for catastrophic children's diseases. Thomas (19120-1991), born Amos Alphonsus Muzyad Yaqoob in Deerfield, Michigan, debuted onscreen in 1947, going on to a brief film career in corny lead roles or comic supporting parts. He was much more successful on TV, starring in the long-running sitcom Make Room for Daddy (later re-named The Danny Thomas Show); he also starred in a number of specials and made guest appearances on variety shows. In the late '50s Thomas began producing for TV; he produced such series as The Andy Griffith Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Gomer Pyle and The Mod Squad. Scratch on black plastic band. Small spot scuffs on one side of chrome cover. Portrait and drawing of hospital are lightly toned. Otherwise in fine condition.
