DAPHNE Du MAURIER
du Maurier signed this sepia-toned photograph of herself in 1982
Photograph signed: "Best wishes/from/Daphne DuMaurier/1982" in blue ink. B/w sepia-toned, 4x6. English novelist du Maurier (1907-1989) found commercial success with Jamaica Inn (1936), which was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1939. It was her suspenseful Rebecca, however, written in 1938 and called the first major Gothic novel of the 20th century that brought critical and popular acclaim to both du Maurier and Hitchcock. The film version won the Oscar as Best Picture in 1940. Hitchcock later brought her short story, The Birds (1952) to the big screen (1963). Fingerprint on background barely visible head on. Otherwise in fine condition.
