Signature: "Darrol Ray/ #28" in blue ink, 5x3. Darrol Ray (b. 1958) was a professional
football player. He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he learned how to play
the safety position. In addition to his normal role as a safety, Ray was a punter and he handled
kickoff duties. Named to Oklahoma's All-Decade Team, Ray was also a two-time 1st team
All-Big Eight and 2nd team All-American. Ray was drafted by the New York Jets in 1980
and played a total of 5 consecutive seasons with the team. During the course of his
professional career, Ray recorded 21 interceptions, returning them for a total of 581 yards
and 3 touchdowns. Following the 1982 season, he set an NFL playoff record by returning an
interception 98 yards for a touchdown. The Jets ended up defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in
that same game, 44 to 17. After retiring from the NFL, Ray returned to Oklahoma where he
ran a liquor store for 15 years and then proceeded to open his own restaurant, Ray's
Smokehouse BBQ. Lightly toned. Ink notes on verso in an unknown hand. Otherwise, fine
