DAVE DEE
He signs the label of one of his 45 rpm singles.
Record signed: "Dave Dee". Record single, "The Wreck of the
'Antoinette', by his group, Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich, on the Fontana
label. (Flip side: "Still Life"). English singer and guitarist Dave Dee
(1943-2009), born David Harman, a cadet policeman in 1960, was a first
arrival at the fatal auto crash of rockabilly star Eddie Cochran
("Summertime Blues", Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). Dee learned to play on
Cochran's impounded guitar. He became lead singer and guitarist for the
band Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich, which had several hits in the UK in
the late 1960s. The band featured pop music and frequently risqué stage
comedy. In 1969, Dee left the group for a solo career, but retired from
performing shortly thereafter. He didn't leave the music business, however,
becoming a successful talent scout and record executive. His talent finds
included the band AC/DC. Fine condition.
