The Oakland Athletics hitter is caught after a mighty swing in this 6x4 color photograph
Photograph Signed: “Dave Henderson / 1988 World Series”. 6x4. Color. In the 1988 World
Series, Henderson batted .300. Despite Henderson's best efforts, the Athletics lost the series.
Dave "Hendu" Henderson (1958-2015) was a former center fielder who played fourteen
seasons in the MLB for the Seattle Mariners (1981-1986), the Boston Red Sox (1986-1987),
the San Francisco Giants (1987), the Oakland Athletics (1988-1993), and the Kansas City
Royals (1994). Posting a career batting average of .258 with 197 home runs and 708 RBIs,
Henderson was a 1991 All-Star as well as a 1989 World Series champion with the Athletics.
Henderson is most famous for his postseason play with the Boston Red Sox during the
team's magical playoff run into the World Series. In Game 5 of the 1986 ALCS, the Red
Sox trailed the California Angels 5-4, partly due to a fielding gaffe Henderson made earlier in
the game. In the top of the ninth, Henderson stood at the plate with teammate Rich Gedman
on first base. On the last strike of the last out of the inning, Henderson hit a two-run
home run to give the Red Sox the lead. The Red Sox won that game on their way to the
World Series! He played in four World Series, wining one. Once he retired from playing,
Henderson worked as a color commentator for the Mariners. Corners lightly bent. Otherwise,
fine condition.
