DAVID ALLAN COE
Black and white publicity photograph of younger David Allan Coe wearing a white cowboy hat.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Edna/David Allan Coe". B/w, 8x10, captioned in lower margin. Country singer David Allen Coe (born 1939), who spent much of his youth in correctional institutions, devoted his first two albums (1967-1968) to recounting his prison experiences. Living at one time in a hearse parked in front of the Grand Ole Opry, and for a while in a cave after the I.R.S. seized his home, he was always outside the Nashville mainstream. However, his concerts had a large cult following, and he was much in demand as a songwriter; songs of Coe's became big hits for Tanya Tucker, Willie Nelson, George Jones and Tammy Wynette. His most famous song, "Take This Job and Shove It", was a #1 country hit for Johnny Paycheck in 1977. Fine condition.
