DAVID DRIER
The California Republican thanks another House Member for voting
against trade sanctions on China. "I sincerely believe that it would be immoral
to cut off trade with China."
Typed Letter signed: "David", 1 page, 7x9¼. Washington,
D.C., 1994 August 15. On his personal letterhead to Carlos J. Moorhead,
Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C. In full: "Thank you
for voting against trade sanctions on China. I sincerely believe that it would
be immoral to cut off trade with China. Republicans know that market capitalism
and trade promote personal freedom and prosperity. China's experiment with
market reforms confirms that fact. Human rights and living standards continue to
improve as economic liberalization and exposure to the United States increase. I
look forward to working with you to maintain a China policy that promotes both
human rights and open trade. Sincerely". David Drier (b. 1952),
