DAVID ESSEX
B/w photo of David Essex sitting on the edge of a river with one arm around Katy Murphy, signed by Essex
Photograph signed "To Jilian/David Essex". B/w, 9¼x6¾. Essex is shown here with Scottish stage, film and TV actress KATY MURPHY. The two appeared together in the six-part BBC series The River (1988). DAVIDESSEX, born David Albert Cook in Plaistow, London, Great Britain in 1947, was a British teen idol of the 1970s. Essex took up acting after suffering putting out 10 singles, all flops; his first notable role was in the lead role in Godspell in 1971. He's probably best known for his hit 1973 single Rock On, off his debut album of the same name. Essex has also appeared on movies and TV shows. His first movie appearance was in the rock star-studded That'll Be the Day (1974), a hit in Great Britain and a cult classic in the United States. Andrew Lloyd Weber fans may recognize him as Che Guevara from the 1978 London production of Evita, a role he created. Lightly toned and creased. Discolored in upper left corner. Paper clip impression at right edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
