McCULLOUGH (1933-2022) won Pulitzer Prizes for Truman (1993) and John Adams
(2002), which were turned into an HBO film and mini-series. He won the National Book
Award for his history of the Panama Canal, The Path Between the Seas (published 1977,
honored 1978). He advised President Carter on negotiation of the Panama Canal Treaty. His
1776 (2005) will also be made into a mini-series. His other historical narratives have included
the Johnstown Flood and the Brooklyn Bridge. A winner of the Presidential Medal of
Freedom, he has narrated many films, including The Civil War and Seabiscuit (2003).
