DAVID GERGEN
He extends a welcome to Washington on a politically themed envelope
Autograph Note signed: "To Charles Salaki -/With warmest best/wishes from Washington, D.C./David Gergen", 6½x3½. Signed on envelope with cachet bearing quotation on politicians from former Pennsylvania Senator Bois Penrose, and US stamps celebrating free speech, postmarked St Louis, Missouri, December 8, 1977. David Gergen (b. 1942) was a speechwriter for President Nixon, Director of Communications for Presidents Ford and Reagan, and a counselor to President Clinton. A professor at Harvard's Kennedy School and a familiar TV and magazine pundit, Gergen was also an adviser to the TV series The West Wing. Although he has worked mainly for Republican Presidents and usually represents the conservative side in political commentaries, he is a registered Independent. Worn at corners and lightly toned. Top left corner creased. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
