BBC radio announcer David Jacobs signed this typed letter on his
personalize stationery in 1965 to turn down an invitation to be a judge at a
beauty contest.
Typed letter signed "David Jacobs" in blue ink. 1 page, 6¼x8,
on personalized stationery. Oct. 14, 1965. Addressed to E. Donald Grant,
Esq., Whitton, Middlesex, England. In full: "Dear Mr. Grant, thank you
for your letter of 10th October inviting me to join the panel of judges who will
choose 'Miss Thames Valley' on 30th October. I very much regret that owing to
broadcasting commitments I shall not be able to do so. With all good wishes,
Yours sincerely,". DavidJacobs (1926-2013) got his start in
broadcasting in the British Royal Navy during World War II and has been a
disk jockey and radio announcer and host for BBC and Radio Luxembourg since the
end of the war. He's probably best known as the host for the BBC programs
Juke Box Jury (1959-1967), the sister debate programs Any
Questions? and Any Answers? (1957-1961) and as one of the
original presenters for Top of the Pops. Jacobs also has a few TV
credits, including a role as Laurie one of the first TV serializations of
Little Women (1950-1951), was a commentator on British Movietone News for
several years and has written several books, including the bestseller
Caroline. Folds and creases through signature. Otherwise in fine
condition.
