DAVID L. DIAMOND One bar from a Schinmen sonata, written, titled, signed and dated by the composer in 1982 Autograph Musical Quotation Signed: "David Diamond/6 October. 1982" in green ink. 1 page, 8¼x11½, perforated at left edge. 1 bar from "Fugue of Subject/from Sonata No 2/For Violin & Piano (1981)/©G. Schinmen. 1982". Diamond (1915-2005) was an American composer known as much for his intense and highly personal compositions as for his orneriness. Of course, when you have to fight not only anti-Semitism, but homophobia (he was openly gay long before it was socially acceptable), you tend to develop a strong personality. Diamond was a vast body of work, including 11 symphonies. His most popular piece is probably Rounds (1944) for string orchestra. Diamond was also a longtime member of faculty at Juilliard. Encapsulated in Mylar. Not examined outside encapsulation. Lightly toned and creased. 3x3¼ stain near top edge (does not touch music, handwriting or signature). Otherwise, fine condition.
