DAVID LIPSKY
Publicist writes to John Willis, editor of Theatre World, about actor Lawrence Lertiz
Typed letter signed: "David Lipsky" 1page, 8½x11. August 6, 1979. In part: "Dear Mr. Willis, Enclosed is an updated biography on Mr. Lawrence Robert Leritz and a current photo [not included] Thank you". Press Representative David Lipsky (d. 2000) was a prominent publicist for stage actors and shows for forty years. He promoted dozens of productions on and off Broadway including Cyrano de Bergerac (1946), A Warm Body (1967), and Only Fools Are Sad (1971). Lawrence Lertiz (b.1962) is an actor and choreographer who has appeared on Broadway, television, and in movies. His screen credits included The Adjustment Bureau (2011) and Stag (1997), and on television he has appeared on Saturday Night Live (1997) and Sex and the City (1999). He has performed on Broadway in The Fiddler on the Roof (1981) and produced and choreographed the off-Broadway show Boobs! The Musical (2000). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Bottom left corner frayed. Other corners slightly creased. Light surface creases. Paper clip indent in top margin. Dirt smudges and stains on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
