drawn on his business account at the Bank of America in Los Angeles, California, payable to
Virgil Johnson for $100. British actor David Niven (1910-1983), born James David
Graham Niven, served in the Highland Infantry in Malta, worked as a lumberman, news
reporter, gunnery instructor to Cuban revolutionists, and as a representative of a London wine
firm, all before he got his first acting role. His entertainment career started to take off in the late
1930s, with roles in The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) and Wuthering Heights (1939). At the
onset of WWII, Niven rejoined the British Army to serve in the war. After he
completed his military service, he became a star with leading roles in Stairway to
Heaven and Magnificent Doll (both in 1946). Other roles over the years that made him an
international star include Sir Charles Litton in a trio of the Pink Panther films (1963, 1982,
1983) and Around the World in Eighty Days (1956). He won the 1958 Academy Award for
Best Actor for Separate Tables. Cancellation holes, not at signature. Ink stamp on verso
shows through faintly, touching signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
