DAVID NIVEN
The talented British actor penned his signature on this check for $100
Check signed: "David Niven" in blue ink, 8¼x3¾. Dated January 30, 1950. Check no. 56 drawn on his business account at the Bank of America in Los Angeles, California, payable to Virgil Johnson for $100. British actor David Niven (1910-1983), born James David Graham Niven, served in the Highland Infantry in Malta, worked as a lumberman, news reporter, gunnery instructor to Cuban revolutionists, and as a representative of a London wine firm, all before he got his first acting role. His entertainment career started to take off in the late 1930s, with roles in The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) and Wuthering Heights (1939). At the onset of WWII, Niven rejoined the British Army to serve in the war. After he completed his military service, he became a star with leading roles in Stairway to Heaven and Magnificent Doll (both in 1946). Other roles over the years that made him an international star include Sir Charles Litton in a trio of the Pink Panther films (1963, 1982, 1983) and Around the World in Eighty Days (1956). He won the 1958 Academy Award for Best Actor for Separate Tables. Cancellation holes, not at signature. Ink stamp on verso shows through faintly, touching signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
