DAVID NIVEN The Academy Award-winning actor and WWII veteran signed this check in 1959 Check signed: "David Niven" in black ink, 8¼x3¾. Dated May 18, 1959. Check no. 846, drawn on his account with A. Morgan Maree, Jr. & Associates, Inc. at Security-First National Bank of Los Angeles. Made payable to Cleary-Strauss & Irwin in the amount of $150.00. London-born actor David Niven (1910-1983), born James David Graham Niven, served with the Highland Infantry in Malta before he worked as a lumberman, news reporter, gunnery instructor to Cuban revolutionists, representative of a London wine firm in the United States, and finally, in 1935, an extra in Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). He won the 1959 Academy Award for Best Actor for Separate Tables (1958). Although often cast in light comedies, such as the Pink Panther series (1964 and after), Niven could also play strong action roles, one of which being his performance in The Guns of Navarone (1961). During the course of his acting career, he won an Oscar and two Golden Globes. When WWII broke out, Niven returned to England and re-enlisted in the British Army. He saw action in Normandy just days after D-Day and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He left the Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Regular bank cancellation holes, stamps, and perforations. Otherwise, fine condition.
