In full: “I have read with care and much profit your valuable exposition upon “Our Future Money.”/ It seems to me you have fortified every premise you have made so clearly as to leave no mistake on the part of the reader. It exhibits a knowledge of the subject in all its branches, as wells as a power of expression that is a model of its kind./ Don't let your pen lie idle./ Very truly yours” Davis Otis Mears (1842-1915) was an American reverend who dedicated himself to a wide range of causes including everything from education to temperance. He published his autobiography, David Otis Mears, D.D.: An Autobiography, 1842-1893 with the help of his wife Mary, as well as his editor, Hannah Amelia Noyes Davidson. The letter written by Mears lauds the book Our Future Money (1886) by William Woodward, a work that featured thoughtful suggestions concerning a sound foundation for paper currency, as well as an analysis of the pros and cons of silver and gold as monetary standards.
