DAVID SHARPE
AFTRA membership application signed by stuntman and actor David Sharpe in 1960. Sharpe was once Republic Pictures' stunt coordinator and was a stunt double for Tony Curtis, W. C. Fields, Clayton Moore, Jay Silverheels, Marlon Brando... even Frances Gifford!
Document signed  "David Sharpe  in blue ink. Blue ink notations and lead pencil marks in unknown hand. 2 pages, 6x8 , 1 sheet, front and verso. With 6x3 initiation fee receipt carbon copy with perforated left edge stapled at top edge  Jan. 24, 1960.   Membership form for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. In 1960, Sharpe had acting credits in episodes of   Zorro   and   Overland Trail  ; we don't have any stunt credits for him that year. Summing up the career of   Sharpe   (1910-1980) is a tall order.   He appeared in over 160 movies and TV shows between 1923 and 1974 and has stunt credits in over 230, many of them overlapping... and some of our sources claim that he may have been seen in at least 4,500!   The winner of two A. A. U. tumbling championships, Sharpe was a gifted athlete; one of his later roles was as a somersaulting little old lady on  The Red Skelton Show   (1966-1969).   He could be a stunt, fight and/or riding double for almost anyone, including Tony Curtis, W. C. Fields, Clayton Moore, Jay Silverheels, Bob Steele, Tim Holt, Marlon Brando, Alan Ladd, Tyrone Power, Jackie Cooper, Douglas Fairbanks Junior and Senior, even Frances Gifford!   Sharpe was also stunt coordinator for Republic Pictures from 1939 to 1942 and appeared in numerous serials, often doing his own stuntwork.
