Short note written on a cheet of white cardstock by Oscar and Daytime
Emmy-winning actor Dean Jagger: "I couldn't figure out your name for
sure"
Autograph note signed "Dean Jagger". Pencil notations on verso
in unknown hand. 1 page, 8½x10¾, on a sheet of cardstock. In full:
"Dear Jackie - I couldn't figure out your name for sure - Sincerely".
Jagger (1903-1991, born in Columbus Grove, Ohio) had some early
starring roles, including the title role in Brigham Young, Frontiersman
(1940), but found his true calling as a character actor. He won an Oscar as
Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Major Stovall in Twelve O'Clock
High (1949). A schoolteacher before he became an actor, Jagger played a
school principal on the TV series Mr. Novak (1963-1964), which earned him
Emmy nominations in 1964 and 1965. He also won a Daytime Emmy for his
performance in an episode of This Is The Life (1980). Jagger appeared
on Broadway eight times between 1933 and 1948, including the original
Broadway production of Tobacco Road (1933-1934). Lightly toned and
creased. Irregular top, left and right edges. Otherwise in fine condition.
