The six time Academy Award nominated actress writes a letter to a friend about her new play Seascape, adding "It is odd...clever...funny...entertaining....needs WORK and CUTTING".
Typed Letter signed: "I will write more I hope when I have learned some of Albee's endless speeches!! Love K", 1 page, 8x11½. No place, 1974 August 21. To Laura darling, In full: "Just a line to say thank you for your card from Virginia.... So very very glad that you are working so much and so well. I am so delighted..... I too have found a play I am intrigued to do... Edward Albee's new one called Seascape. It is odd...clever...funny...entertaining....needs WORK and CUTTING, but feel the experience will be a good one whether it goes or not. As you will be tied up with Maggie Smith on her tour I don't expect there will be a chance of your doing the same for me. We start rehearsals 21st October, and do about 7 weeks out of town...Washington...Baltimore...Philadelphia and then in at the deep end!! We returned last Sunday night from Spain and reluctantly left the sun and the idle life....but life must go ON! Am swamped with un-answered letters so forgive the haste and boringness of this letter!!" Deborah Kerr (1921-2007), was born Deborah Jane Trimmer in Scotland. She was trained as a ballerina. However, she soon discovered that she was more interested in drama and began playing minor roles in Shakespearean productions. Kerr, who made her film debut in Major Barbara (1941), typically played reserved, well-bred ladies. On the strength of her sensitive portrayal of a nun in Black Narcissus (1947), she was brought to Hollywood to play the lead opposite Clark Gable in The Hucksters. Kerr received Best Actress Academy Award nominations for six films: Edward, My Son (1949), From Here to Eternity (1953), The King and I (1956), Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1959), Separate Tables (1958) and The Sundowners (1960). Accompanied by an envelope postmarked 21, 8, 1974. Two horizontal mailing folds. Lightly toned at folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
