Dellie Ellis (1926), born Mary Magdalena Ellis in Hong Kong, China, moved to the United States as a teenager after the Japanese invasion in 1939. Her first notable role came on radio, as the summer fill-in as Judy on A Date with Judy (NBC Radio) June -September 1942. She made the move into films - the studio changed her name to Joan Lorring, in 1944 with small parts in Song of Russia and The Bridge of San Luis Rey. She received her only Oscar nomination in 1945 for her role in The Corn Is Green. After a few less successful films she appeared in Come Back, Little Sheba on Broadway (1950). From there, Joan Lorring focused on television. From1950-56 she made numerous appearances on such programs as Robert Montgomery Presents, The Philco Television Playhouse, Goodyear Television Playhouse, Westinghouse Studio One and many more. TV starring roles in the soap opera Valiant Lady (1954-55) and the sitcom Norby (1955) were accompanied by other guest spots. Soap Ryan's Hope netted her a regular role from 1979-1980 with her last reported appearance-Love Boat in 1980. Lightly toned and creased at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
