Dennis James (1917-1997), who was best know as a game show host, was also a
television pioneer. Not only did he host TV's first game show (on the Dumont
Television Network), but James also hosted the first variety show and first
sports show, was the first television wrestling announcer, was the first live
television newsreel commentator, was the first to do a videotaped commercial and
was the first to host the Easter Parade. The many game shows hosted by
James include Name's The Same (1954-1955), Chance of a
Lifetime (1955), Name That Tune (1974-1975), The Price is
Right (1972-1976, weekly primetime version), Stop the Music, Can
You Top This? and P.D.Q. James appeared in the feature films Mr.
Universe (1951), The One and Only (1978), Rocky III (1982) and
The Method (1997), and was a guest on a number of television series,
including Batman, on which he provided the commentary for a fight between
Batman and the Penguin. James was also widely known for his work as a charity
fund-raising telethon host. Fine condition.
