DENNIS LEONARD
Signed Cover commemorating Game Four of the 1980 World Series
Commemorative Cover signed: "Dennis Leonard", 6½x3½. Special cover marking Game 4 of
the 1980 World Series, postmarked Kansas City, Missouri, October 18, 1980 (the date and
place of the game), 15-cent US flag stamp affixed. Cachet notes Leonard as the game's
winning pitcher. Dennis Leonard played his entire Major League career for the Kansas
City Royals, and was the ace of the staff in the team's glory days 1976-1981, when they
missed the playoffs only once. Three times a twenty-game winner, Leonard remains the
all-time Royals leader in complete games and shutouts. He lost Game One and won Game
4 of the 1980 series, lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games. Ironically, Leonard had
nothing left in 1985, pitching only 2 games in the year that saw the team win its first and only
World Championship. Lightly toned at lower edge - darker on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
