DENNIS OWCHAR
Retired NHL defenseman signs his name on newspaper photograph of himself
Newspaper photograph signed: "Dennis/ Owchar" in blue ink. 3¾x5¾, actual image 2x4½.
Picture attached to piece of cardstock Dennis Owchar (b. 1953) is a retired NHL defenseman
who played six seasons for the Pittsburgh Penguins (1974-1978) and the Colorado Rockies
(1977-1980). Owchar early on established himself as a physical defenseman who specialized
in body checking and playing the man; this dominance set him up as the 55th overall pick
in the 1973 Amateur Draft by the Penguins. He played most of his first four seasons with
them, only occasionally going down to the minor league Hershey Bears. He was traded to the
Colorado Rockies in 1977, where he played 3 seasons before being traded to the Los Angeles
Kings. He went another two seasons with the New Haven Nighthawks before retiring due to
injuries in 1982. Heavily toned. Corners rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
