DENNIS THE MENACE TV CAST: JAY NORTH and JEANNE RUSSELL
Still from the series, shown as Dennis and Margaret in a rare, friendly moment
Photograph signed: "Best/wishes/Jay/North/Dennis/the/Menace", "best wishes/Jeanne Russell/'Margaret'". B/w, 8x10 Based on Hank Ketcham's mischievous cartoon character, Dennis the Menace was televised on CBS from 1959-1963 and was in the Nielsen's "Top 20" its first three seasons. JAY NORTH (1951-2025) is best known as rolling disaster Dennis Mitchell on TV's Dennis The Menace(a character that earned North a TV Land Award nomination for "Character Most Desperately in Need of a Timeout"). Needless to say, he was pretty much typecast as Dennis Mitchell, after that; an unsuccessful transition to adult acting and allegedly abusive guardians made him give up acting in the 1970s for a stint in the U. S. Navy. He did, however, appear in over 30 movies and TV shows between 1958 and 1986, with starring roles in the movies Miracle of the Hills (1959), Zebra in the Kitchen (1965) and Maya (1966) and a recurring role as Prince Turhan on The Banana Splits Adventure Hour. He still appears in cameos, works as a corrections officer, and offers counseling to child actors. JEANNE RUSSELL (b. 1950) was neighbor Margaret Wade on Dennis the Menace. Today she is a licensed chiropractor, but remains active on the Screen Actors Guild's Young Performers Committee, concerned with working conditions of today's child actors. Russell went by "Jeannie" as a young actress and Jeanne in adulthood. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
