DENVER PYLE
Shown with actress Maggie Hayes in a sepia publicity photograph for the 1959 film Good Day for a Hanging
Photograph signed: "To Jenn/Best Always/Denver Pyle" in black ink. Sepia 10x8. Publicity photograph for the 1959 film Good Day for a Hanging. Screen and television actor Denver Pyle (1920-1997) is best known for his role as Uncle Jesse Duke on the TV series, The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985). He would reprise the role on the TV series, Enos, and in the 1997 made-for-TV movie, The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion. Pyle, a veteran of WWII, played supporting roles in films, mostly in Westerns, from the late 1940s. He frequently appeared in John Wayne's later films, and Pyle also gained attention for his role as Texas Ranger Frank Hamer in Bonnie & Clyde (1967). A frequent guest star on TV Westerns of the 1950s, Pyle would go on to appear in recurring roles on a succession of TV series: The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp (as Ben Thompson, 1955, 1957), The Andy Griffith Show (as Briscoe Darling, 1963-1967), The Doris Day Show (as her father, 1968-1970) and The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams (1978-1980). Lightly creased. Lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
