signed on the cover. Sir Derek Barton (1918-1998) of the Imperial College of
Science and Technology, London, was co-recipient with Odd Hassell of Norway
of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1969) "for their contributions to the
development of the concept of conformation and its application in chemistry."
Barton later determined the geometry of many molecules using this method.
