16, 1973). Uris Theatre presents The Desert Song, books and lyrics by Otto
Harbach, Oscar Hammerstein II & Frank Mandel, produced by Lehman Engel and
directed by Henry Butler. Signed on the first page. The 1973 production
of Desert Song is a second revival of the original 1926 musical which premiered
at the Casino Theatre in New York City. Opening nearly fifty years after its
original production, Lehman Engel's Desert Song tells the story of a French
General who has been sent to Morocco to weed out and destroy the notorious
Riffs, a group of Arabian rebels captained by a mysterious leader called "Red
Shadow," who have attacked the French-Moroccan outpost in the desert. David
Cryer (b.1936) is an American stage, film and television actor who has
appeared in 19 films and T.V. shows, including Law and Order (1991) and
American Gigolo (1980), and 10 Broadway shows, including The Phantom
of the Opera (1988). Television and stage actor Michael Kermoyan
(1921-1994) appeared in several works, including the T.V. series Ryan's
Hope (1979) and Broadway's The King and I (1977-1978). Stanley
Grover (1926-1997) performed in over 60 films, television seriess, and
Broadway shows, perhaps most known for his recurring role as Judge Richard Lobel
on L.A. Law (1988-1994). Also a performer on L.A. Law, Gloria
Rossi (b.1943) has acted in minor television roles and a few plays,
including Gypsy (1974-1975). Stage actress Britt Swanson (b.1947)
mainly performed in the late sixties and early seventies, appearing in plays
such as Come Summer (1969). John Ribecchi played Sid El Kar, Red
Shadow's Arab lieutenant in the musical. Mandingo Shaka, who performed in
the play Lost in the Stars (1972), was cast as Herri, one of the lead
Riffs. Stage, film and television actress Chris Callan (b.1944) has
performed in seven plays, including Prince of Central Park (1989), as
well as over a dozen television shows such as One Life to Live (1976).
David Vogel, who appeared in the musicals Make a Wish (1951) and
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1949-1951), mainly worked as an understudy and
a vocalist on stage. Music director Al Cavalier has directed several
musicals, including The King and I (1985) and The Most Happy Fella
(1979). Toned. Left edge worn, slightly torn at staples. Otherwise, fine
condition.
