DESI ARNAZ and BARBARA JO ALLEN ("VERA VAGUE")
Album Leaf signed one side by Arnaz, and on the other by Allen with her character name
Inscribed signatures: "To Don/Desi Arnaz", 6x4 album leaf. Co-signed on verso: "To Don-/Vera Vague". Former Cuban bandleader DESI ARNAZ (1917-1986), already well known for his music, became an American household presence as Ricky Ricardo in the TV sitcom I Love Lucy (1951-1957), which retains its popularity in syndication to this day. In 1950, he and screen and real life wife Lucille Ball formed Desilu Productions, which eventually produced many television series. BARBARA JO ALLEN (1906-1974) was featured from 1937 on several radio series, including One Man's Family and I Love a Mystery. In 1939, she created the character of Vera Vague, an ambitious, overzealous woman who spouted misinformation. The character became quite popular and was featured on Bob Hope's radio show from 1941. She married Hope's producer, Norman Morrill, in 1943. Allen appeared in over 60 movies and TV shows between 1938 and 1963, often credited as Vera Vague. She was featured in a long series of Columbia comedy shorts, with titles like She Snoops to Conquer and Hiss and Yell. Allen also provided voices for animated Disney films, including Sleeping Beauty and The Sword in the Stone. Inscription on verso bleeds through to "D" of Desi. Jagged at right margin. Ink notes (unknown hand) at upper and lower edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
