THE DEVIL'S DISCIPLE PLAY CAST: JOHN McCALLUM and NORMAN TYRRELLThe two cast members sign this program from a staging of the George Bernard Shaw melodrama Program signed: "John McCallum" and "Norman Tyrrell" on cast page. 8p, 5x7½. Programme for Matthew Forsyth's production of The Devil's Disciple by George Bernard Shaw at The People's Palace, London. Originally written for William Terriss and held up in London by his assassination, it was first produced in New York at the Fifth Avenue Theatre in 1897 by Richard Mansfield who created the part of Dick Dudgeon. The Devil's Disciple may be truthfully described as Shaw's only melodrama, although it was hardly recognized as such by the press and public of the 1890s. JOHN McCALLUM (1917-2010) was an Australian stage and movie actor. He had over thirty acting credits in TV and movies in England and Australia between 1921 and 1987 and was frequently seen on the stage in productions such as William Somerset Maugham's The Circle. He married actress Googie Withers in 1948. McCallum was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1971 and an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1992 for his contributions to drama and theatre. NORMAN TYRELL (1917-2000) was an actor who first appeared on London stages and then was in several films. Some of his better-known roles came in the movies Murder in the Cathedral (1947), Face to Face (1951), The Merry Christmas (1955). Lightly creased. Slightly soiled and worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
