in 1959.
Typed letter signed: "Devin Garrity ", 1 page, 8½x11. New York
City, New York, August 17, 1959. On presidential letterhead at Devin-Adair
Publishers Company, To "Dear Mr. Thompson" H. Keith Thompson, New York, in
full: "I enclose the permission to use my short note to you and I hope
the venture proves to be a success [item not included]. Thank you for
your interest in the new Veale book which I feel fairly sure will not be
reviewed by any of our leading media. I enclose our new catalogue to give you an
idea of some of our other books. Sincerely,". Devin Adair Garrity
(1906-1981) assumed presidency of Devin-Adair Publishing Company in
1939 after the death of his father, Henry Garrity, former president and
founder of the company. Established in 1911 in New York City, Devin-Adair
Publishers relocated to Old Greenwich, Connecticut in 1970. In the beginning the
company only published books on poetry and ornithology; however, they began to
publish books on political conservatism and anti-communism under Garrity's
direction. Garrity, also a writer, authored Irish poems and short stories
including 44 Irish Short Stories. Normal mailing folds. Creased.
