6x3 photo of a smiling Cavett, inscribed and signed
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Trinia/Best Wishes/Dick/Cavett". B/w 5¾x3¼. Dick Cavett (born in 1936) began his career as a comedy writer for Jack Paar and for his Tonight Show successor, Johnny Carson. In 1968, he hosted a daytime ABC talk show; the following year, Cavett was emceeing a nightly TV chat fest, in direct competition with his old boss, Johnny Carson. Amidst several other projects, Cavett went on to host a daily PBS interview series (1977-1981), and he helmed similar programs on the USA and CNBC cable services into the 1990s. Cavett occasionally appeared in dramatic roles on TV and Broadway, and he was seen in a handful of films. Cast as "himself," Cavett made fleeting appearances in Annie Hall (1977), Health (1979), Nightmare on Elm Street 3 (1987) and Forrest Gump (1994), and he was afforded a rare character part as a snooty intellectual in Beetlejuice (1988). Cavett was married to actress Carrie Nye from 1964 until her death in 2006. Corners lightly worn. Poor contrast but still legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
