"Eternal teenager" Clark, born in 1929,began as a radio disc
jockey on Philadelphia's WFIL in 1952 before hosting the local Bandstand
program beginning in 1956. The program was aired nationally as American
Bandstand on ABC from 1957 to 1987. Clark - especially in the early
years - exerted a great influence on the styles and musical tastes of young
Americans. At the same time, his strict dress code and preference for
milder music helped rock music gain acceptance by parents. Clark has also
hosted TV specials and game shows and promoted the American Music Awards as an
alternative to the Grammys. Lightly soiled and creased, otherwise in fine
condition.
