DICK MORGAN and ARTHUR "SKEETS" HERFURT
Inscribed 5x7 photo, Herfurt shown putting a woman's wig on Morgan
Photograph inscribed and signed: ""To Wm McLaughlin/The Best/Dick Morgan",
"Me too!/Willie!/Skeets Herfurt". B/w, 5x7. ARTHUR "SKEETS" HERFURT
(1911-1992) was a jazz sax and clarinet player who performed with the
Dorsey Brothers (together and individually, 1934-1939). He was also heard with
the bands of Ray Noble, Alvino Rey, and - after service in World War II - with
Benny Goodman. As a Hollywood studio musician, he played with Louis Armstrong,
Billy May, Stan Kenton and others, and he was a member of Lawrence Welk's TV
Orchestra (1979-1982). DICK "ICKY" MORGAN, who derived his nickname
from one of his favorite expressions, was an eccentric banjo and guitar
player whose act included a replica python. He performed mostly with Ben
Pollack's band, but he was the inspiration for Glenn Miller's song "When Icky
Morgan Plays the Organ." Lightly toned. Soiled at margins. Paper and
adhesive residue (previous mounting) on verso, no show through. Otherwise, fine
condition.
