DICK MODZELEWSKI
Rare 5x3 black and white photograph of the defensive tackle who played on both the 1956 Giants and 1964 Browns NFL Championship teams.
Photograph signed: "Dick Modzelewski" in black felt tip, B/w 3½x5. Defensive tackle Dick Modzelewski was born on February 16, 1931 in West Natrona, Pennsylvania. A College Football Hall of Famer out of the University of Maryland, he was drafted as the 16th overall pick by the Washington Redskins in the 1953 NFL Draft. After spending his first three years in Washington and Pittsburgh he was traded to the New York Giants where he played from 1956 to 1953. In his first year with the Giants, they became the 1956 NFL Champions. Modzlewski and the Giants reached the NFL Championship Game five more times, but lost all of them. In 1964 he was traded to the Cleveland Browns, that year he made his only Pro Bowl appearance and his veteran leadership helped take the Browns to a 27-0 victory over the Baltimore Colts in the NFL Championship Game. He retired after 1966 and began to coach for the Browns. He soon became a defensive coordinator for the team and later coached as a defensive coordinator for the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
