DICK O'NEILL
Actor sends note of thanks to John Willis, editor of Theatre World, for his interest
Autograph note signed: "Dick O'Neill" in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x11. Written on The Last Meeting of the Knights of the White Magnolia letterhead. Hollywood, California. In full: "Mr. Willis - Here you are such as it is - Thanks for your interest and good wishes. Sincerely". Stage, television and movie actor Dick O'Neill (1928-1998) had a prolific forty year long career, best known for playing Irish-American cops, fathers, judges and army generals. He made his acting debut in the series Producers' Showcase (1955) and went on to make dozens of appearances in shows such as Brenner (1959-1964), Sanford and Son (1972), Rosetti and Ryan (1977) and Family Matters (1996-1998). O'Neill's movie credits include The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), The Jerk (1979), Prizzi's Honor (1985) and The Mosquito Coast (1986); and furthermore he performed numerous times on Broadway, debuting in the comedy The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1960) and appearing in Skyscraper (1965), Promises, Promises (1968) and Tough to Get Help (1972). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Toned. Light surface creases. Slightly water damaged in left margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
