Autograph Note Signed: "To/Mae Brown/Sincerely/Dick Powell" and signed in pencil on verso, "Marie Greene", 5¼x4½ album leaf. Ink note (unknown hand) at lower margin of Powell's side: "Ritz Theater/Newburgh, N.Y./October 23, 1939/Met him at Loew's State Theater/New York, New York/January 25, 1942". Ink note (same hand) at lower right margin of Greene's side: "Marie Greene/Ted Steele Show/N.BC (sic) Studios/New York City/Sept 12, 1942". In 1942, Powell appeared as himself in the "Hit the Road to Dreamland" number in the feature film, Star Spangled Rhythm. Ted Steele was best known as the orchestra leader on the radio show, Cavalcade of Stars. In 1942, Actor DICK POWELL (1903-1963), born Richard Ewing Powell, sang and played several instruments in live performances and on radio in the late 1920s, and he had some hit records. In the 1930s, Powell moved to film musicals, including 42nd Street (1933) and The Gold Diggers of 1933. He began playing dramatic roles the following decade, beginning by playing Philip Marlow in Murder, My Sweet (1944). Powell also appeared often on early TV, hosting The Dick Powell Show from 1961 until his early death from cancer. He was married to actresses Joan Blondell (his second wife, 1936-1944) and June Allyson (his third wife, 1945 until his death in 1963). Singer and actress MARIE GREENE, who was also billed as Marie Green, starred (as band leader and singer) in the 1941 film, Marie Green and Her Merry Men. Green, who made her film debut in Wharf Angel in 1934, was also seen in Ma, He's Making Eyes at Me (1940) and she was both seen and heard in the film versions and sound track albums of Carousel (1956; as Louise Bigelow) and South Pacific (1958; as Ngana). Lightly creased with fold, vertical fold at the upper loop of the "P" and the "w" in Powell and the "G" of Greene. Lightly soiled, minor 1x¾-inch stain at mid-right margin of Powell's side. Otherwise, fine condition.
