Signature: "Dick Francis" in blue felt tip, on a 5¼x3¼ white card. Richard Stanley "Dick" Francis (1920-2010) was a British jockey and crime writer. During World War II he served in the Royal Air Force piloting fighter and bomber aircrafts. After the war he became a celebrity in British National Hunt Racing, winning over 350 races and becoming champion jockey in the 1953-1954 seasons. Francis wrote over forty international bestsellers. His first book was an autobiography The Sport of Queens (1957). He published his first thriller Dead Cert in 1962 and continued to write a new novel every year for the next thirty eight years (excluding 1998). He is the only writer to receive the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award for Best Novel three times. In 1999 he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Signature lightly beaded.
