DICK SARGENT
Signed b/w publicity photo from The Ghost and Mr. Chicken of a
scowling Sargent in striped sports coat and tie
Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "Dick/Sargent". 8x10 overall, 7¼x9
image, one surface. ©1965 Universal Pictures Company, Inc. According to notes on
verso, this photo is from 1966's The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Sargent
played George Beckett in this movie, "a small-town newspaper editor who
naturally doesn't have a dull moment with reporter Don Knotts." Screen and
television actor Sargent (1930-1994, born Richard Cox in Carmel,
California) is best known for his role as the "second Darrin Stephens" in the
TV series, Bewitched. Sargent, who had been the first choice for
the role, had to bow out due to a contract commitment with Universal, but he
took over for an ailing Dick York in 1969, appearing as Darrin until
the series' end in 1972. Sargent, who had made his film debut in 1956,
appeared in a number of films, including Operation Petticoat (1959),
The Great Imposter (1961), That Touch of Mink (1962), Captain
Newman, M.D. (1963) and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966). In addition
to Bewitched, Sargent also starred in several other series,
mini-series (including Rich Man, Poor Man in 1976) and made-for-TV
movies in addition to making guest appearances on a long list of TV shows, from
Medic (1956) to Harry and the Hendersons (1992), including
multiple appearances on such shows as Love, American Style and
Charlie's Angels. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Pinhead-sized
impressions on image (not visible head on). Otherwise, fine
condition.
