DICK WILSON
The star of the longest running commercial series in history is shown wearing a tuxedo in this 8x10 black and white photograph, signed in black felt tip
Inscribed Printed Photograph Signed In Ink: “To Bill/Love/Dick/Wilson” in black felt tip. 8x10. B/w. Dick Wilson (1916-2007) was a standup comedian stunt man and actor who had appeared in numerous TV guest spots (including Bewitched and Hogan's Heroes) before finding his most famous role. Benton & Bowles developed a TV ad campaign for Procter & Gamble featuring Wilson as "Mr. Wilson," the fussy grocery store manager who warned customers not to squeeze the Charmin toilet paper, but could not resist squeezing it himself. These ads, 504 in number, ran from 1964 to 1989, entering the Guinness Book of Records as the longest running commercial series in TV history. Of course, Wilson became so typecast as Mr. Whipple that he was unemployable in other acting roles. In 1979, "Mr. Wilson" was the third most recognized American, exceeded only by Richard Nixon and Billy Graham. Wilson, whose perks included a monthly shipment of Charmin bathroom tissue, came out of retirement in 1999 to film one more commercial for the product. Corners lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
