DICKIE VALENTINE AND LIZ VALENTINE
The singer and his ice skater wife sign with best wishes.
Autograph note signed: "To Peter/My best wishes/Dickie/Valentine", on verso: "To Peter/Love + Best Wishes/always/Liz Valentine xx", in blue ink, 7¼x4½. Britain's Top Singing Star Dickie Valentine At The Hippodrome Theatre Blackpool. Dickie's Wife Lovely Liz Valentine Garrick Theatre Southport. DICKIE VALENTINE (born Richard Maxwell, 1929-1971) was an English pop singer, popular in the 1950's with such singles as "Finger of Suspicion" (1954) and "Christmas Alphabet" (1955). Valentine began as a child actor, appearing in film when he was just three years old in Jack's The Boy (1932). It was during his time as a child actor that he developed his singing skills, and would pursue this career more so than his acting. He was signed in 1949 to join Ted Heath and His Music, and was nominated in 1952 as the UK Top Male Vocalist. He often did impersonations of other famous musicians and actors during his shows, making him a hit with fans and often having him top billed at venues. He landed two shows during his prime, the series Calling Dickie Valentine (1961) and the sketch show The Dickie Valentine Show (1966). Unfortunately, Valentine died in 1971 as the driver in a fatal car crash. LIZ VALENTINE, an ice skater, married Dickie Valentine in 1954. They had two children during their marriage, but divorced in 1967, with Dickie Valentine remarrying to actress Wendy Wane. Hand decorated. Lightly soiled. Left edge worn. Fine condition.
