Typed Letter signed: "Dickinson W. Richards", 1p, 5½x8½. New York,
N.Y., 1958 September 16. On letterhead of Columbia University College of
Physicians and Surgeons to George R. Sanders, Director of Special Events, KMLA
Broadcasting Corporation, Los Angeles, California. In full: "I
appreciate your letter inviting me to send a photograph for your memorial
lounge. I do not think, however, that this could be rated in the same class with
your other distinguished portraits, and I trust, therefore, that you will pardon
me if I decline your courteous offer. Sincerely yours". Richards
(1895-1973), of Columbia University, shared the 1956 Nobel Prize in
Physiology or Medicine with Andre Cournand and Werner Fossmann "for their
discoveries concerning heart catheterization and pathological changes in the
circulatory system". Fine condition.
