DIMITRI MITROPOULOS. Photograph Mount inscribed and signed on mount: "For Beatriz Ines Barcia/Dimitri Mitropoulos". B/w, 6½x8½ overall, image 4x5¼ (two surfaces). Greek-born Dimitri Mitropoulos (1896-1959) was Music Director of the New York Philharmonic from 1949-1956, when he was succeeded by Leonard Bernstein. While rehearsing Mahler's Symphony No. 3 in Milan on November 1, 1959, he was stricken with a fatal heart attack and died at the podium. Lightly foxed.
