DIVORCE: AMERICAN STYLE MOVIE CAST: JEAN SIMMONS and JASON ROBARDS
Signed black and white movie still from the
film Divorce American Style.
Photograph signed: "Jean Simmons", "Jason Robards". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9½x6¾ (one surface). Captioned at lower margin. Shown with Dick Van Dyke in movie still from the film Divorce American Style, ©1967, Columbia Pictures. British actress JEAN SIMMONS (1929-2010),born in Crouch Hill, London, England, earned critical acclaim in such films as Great Expectations (1946), Laurence Olivier's Hamlet (as Ophelia, 1948, Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival and an Academy Award nomination), Elmer Gantry (1960) and The Happy Ending (1968, Academy Award nomination). In all, Simmons was nominated for 6 Golden Globe awards - winning once for Guys and Dolls (1956), nominated for 2 Academy Awards and she won an Emmy for The Thorn Birds (1983). Dark Shadows fans may remember her as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, while anime fans may recognize her voice as that of Grandma Sophie in the English-language version of Howl's Moving Castle (2004). A decorated navy veteran of World War II, ROBARDS (1922-2000) moved on to success on the Broadway stage. Among his best early film roles were encores of his earlier stage roles (Long Days Journey Into Night, 1962; A Thousand Clowns (1965). He earned two Oscars as Best Supporting Actor (All The President's Men, 1976; Julia, 1977), and was nominated for another (Melvin and Howard, 1980). The son of stage and screen actor Jason Robards, Sr., he appeared on Broadway with his dad in The Disenchanted (1958). Poor contrast on Robards signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
