THE DODGE SISTERS: BETH DODGE
Rare sentiment of one of the jazz age dancing sisters
Autograph sentiment signed: "Sincerely Best Wishes/Beth Dodge", 4¼x2. Beth Dodge and her sister Betty Dodge formed a dance duet featured on Broadway in A Night in Venice (1919). They were seen everywhere during the Roaring Twenties, with many photos, paintings and magazine ads (for Chesterfield cigarettes, among other products) still extant. They were featured in the London production of the Gershwin's Oh Kay (1927), and toured Europe to acclaim from Berlin to Paris' Folies Bergere. They can be seen on the web, performing "the Lock Step" in stylish prison stripes in M-G-M's The March of Time (1929). The sisters split when Beth married Clarence Stroud, of the dancing Stroud Brothers. The Dodge Sisters filed for bankruptcy in 1931, and disappeared from public view. Toned and lightly worn. Heavy mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
